2019 was a spectacular year for the American Artisan Cheese makers. Rogue Creamery won the highest honor in cheese scoring 100 points at the World Cheese Awards for their Rogue River blue, to be the best cheese in the world and first American made cheese to win this top honor. In July at the International Cheese Awards Jasper Hill Farm took the Reserve Champion with their Bayley Hazen Blue along with 3 Trophies that have never been awarded to an American Cheese Maker and making them the second-best cheese in the world. Also, at the International Cheese Awards Carr Valley Cheese Co took home the trophy for the Best USA Cheese for their Glacier Penta Crème five-creme blue. 3 American Blues, 3 of the best blues in the world.
The American Cheese makers have been producing amazing cheeses for a long time and now they are getting the recognition that they deserve Internationally. So how do we reward these and the other cheese makers that are winning these amazing and well-deserved awards? Go to your local grocery store and ask the Deli Manager, Cheesemonger or their American Cheese Society Certified Cheese Professional to bring these and their other cheeses into the specialty cheese case so everyone can experience these and other amazing American Artisan Cheeses.
Why don’t we see them in the case already? Most deli managers are concerned if they bring in these higher priced cheeses that the will go unsold and have to shrink the cheeses. However, if you are asking for them to bring them in, they have a buyer for the cheeses, reducing that risk and knowing that someone will appreciate and love these fantastic cheese. You can be the change that brings these and other American Artisan cheeses into the grocery stores specialty cheese cases.
